Stacey Dunn is a strategic planning consultant and organizational storyteller who helps mission-driven organizations find their direction, align across their communities, and create new narratives that maximize organizational impact.

She came to this work with deep experience in cross-sector collaboration, having built strategy as both an outside advisor and internal organizational leader. After 25 years building strategy for some of the most demanding brands in the country, including Ford, Rocket, Anheuser-Busch, and Wrigley, she made a deliberate choice to change course.

She founded Strategy InKind, LLC on a single conviction: that nonprofits fighting hardest for people deserve the same rigorous, human-centered attention and capacity that corporations have spent billions perfecting. Not a watered-down version. Not too abstract to be actionable. The real thing. She is not a consultant who delivers a document and disappears. She is a partner who builds the strategy, stories, and tools that move people to act.

Her relationship with Ruth Ellis Center runs deep. She began as a volunteer and now serves on its Board of Directors as Communications Chair, supporting one of the nation's leading nonprofits for LGBTQ+ young people experiencing homelessness. Other nonprofit clients and partners have included the Greening of Detroit, Impact100 Metro Detroit, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She holds a Bachelor’s in Advertising from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Administration from Central Michigan University and is based in metro Detroit.

“One of the biggest challenges in bringing on a communications strategist is the time it takes to get them fully up to speed, aligned with your team, and working in sync with your organization. Stacey Dunn made that process feel effortless. From the very beginning, she approached the work with genuine collaboration, a strong connection to our agency’s values, and a clear commitment to excellence in supporting the Ruth Ellis Center. She didn’t feel like an external consultant. She quickly became a trusted part of our team and a valued partner in every sense. If I had the opportunity to bring her on as a permanent staff member, I would have done so without hesitation.” -Mark B. Erwin, Executive Director.

Empathy First

Starting with empathy means we take the perspective of the community an organization is serving.

  • We listen, observe and withhold judgment.

  • We learn and acknowledge what the community is experiencing through thoughtful observations and conversations.

  • We turn those learnings into powerful insights that drive strategic direction.

  • This works best in collaboration with organizations, recognizing the unique talents of each individual contributor and creating an environment where the most impactful ideas can come to life.
